Emily Brontë was born in 1818 in Yorkshire, in the north of England. She grew up in the village of Haworth, where her father was the parish clergyman. Her mother died when Emily was three, so Emily and her siblings raised themselves largely on books and their own imaginations. With her sisters Charlotte and Anne, and her brother Branwell, she invented whole imaginary kingdoms and filled tiny handmade booklets with stories about them.
