Literary Atlas is a reading companion for iPhone. It maps the world's literature onto an interactive globe, so you can explore stories by the places they're set and the authors who wrote them, follow literary timelines across the centuries, search inside the writing itself, and keep a personal library of your own ebooks to read or listen to offline.

Open the Library tab and tap Import. Pick a DRM-free ebook from your Files, iCloud Drive, or another app, and it's added to your shelf. Your book files stay on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.

DRM-free EPUB is fully supported, along with plain text, HTML, and Markdown (converted for reading on import). Books protected by DRM — such as Kindle or Apple Books purchases — cannot be opened by any third-party app and aren't supported.

No. Those files are DRM-protected and can only be read in their own apps. Where a book is available on Kindle, Literary Atlas can link you to it on Amazon so you can read it in the Kindle app — but nothing is imported or copied.

When a book you're viewing is available on Kindle, a link opens it on Amazon. These links carry an affiliate tag, so a purchase may earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you. See the disclosure below.

Yes. Literary Atlas can narrate a book to you, with control over the speaking speed, the voice pitch, and which of the narrator voices installed on your iPhone is used. You can also tap any word and choose "Read from here" to begin at that exact sentence. Narration keeps its place when you leave a book and come back, and stands down as soon as you scroll by hand. Reading aloud is part of Literary Atlas Premium.

That is deliberate. Your saved place only moves once you settle into a passage, so flipping forward to check a name or a chapter heading no longer overwrites where you actually stopped. If you have wandered a long way from your spot, a small pill appears offering to take you back to it, or to carry on from where you are now.

Tap the note marker in the text and the note opens in a sheet over the page, so you keep your place instead of being thrown to the back of the book. This works both with modern ebooks and with the plain numbered markers found in older public-domain texts.

Search has two rows of filters. The first picks what you are looking through: everything, works, authors, or events. The second narrows it further, either by the type of work or by what you have saved, liked, or already read. Turn on "In the text" to search the body of the writing itself rather than only titles and author names.

Reading is tracked in two parts: the summary and the story. Each earns its own small mark, and a work, author, or event counts as fully read only once you have both. Where a subject has no story published, the summary alone completes it. These marks appear when you're signed in.

Yes, and no longer only in books you imported. Text size, page theme, pinch to zoom, and ordinary text selection now work across the app, on story, work, author, and event pages as well as in your own library.

Your imported book files stay on your device. Reading progress and bookmarks sync to your account so they follow you to a new phone. We don't sell your data. Delete your account any time from Settings, or email us to request removal.

Try closing and reopening the app, and make sure you're on the latest version from the App Store. If the problem continues, email us with your device model, iOS version, and a short description (a screenshot helps) and we'll look into it.
