Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was born in 1900 in Lyon, France, into an old aristocratic family. He grew up loving machines and the sky. In the 1920s he became a pilot and flew mail routes across the deserts of North Africa and the mountains of South America. Flying was still dangerous and often deadly then, so those flights gave him his subject. He wrote about the courage of pilots and the loneliness of the sky. He wrote about what it means to care for other people, in books like Night Flight and Wind, Sand and Stars.
