Henrik Ibsen

Henrik Ibsen was born in 1828 in Skien, a small Norwegian town. His family was comfortable until his father's business failed, which pushed the boy into poverty and shaped the sharp eye for money and shame that runs through his plays. As a teenager he worked as a pharmacist's apprentice. He hated it, and he began writing instead.
